How to clean: Acetate

Acetate is a material used in inexpensive satin and lining of clothing and draperies which usually needs dry cleaning. We all know dry cleaning cost money, then there's gas driving their and back, the wait, etc. It totally adds up and if you're like me, I like to wash many of my fabrics once a week so that would surely cost me a lot. Few tricks to clean it at home and save you money and time.

  • If the garment labels says you can wash it, launder it in cold water with mild suds. No wring or twisting and mixing colored items.

  • Once clean, do not put in dryer, instead air dry and carefully spread it out on a terry-cloth bath towel on a horizontal surface or simply on a clothesline,

  • Press garment on the wrong side while it's still damp with a cool iron. If pressing the right side, be sure to use pressing cloth.

  • NEVER use nail polish remover or any products that contain acetone to remove any stains. Acetone will dissolve acetate = RUINED!
